Emerson Elementary School is a unique and wonderful place where our children are safe, and the staff relentlessly ensures high levels of academic performance in a multicultural setting.

Essential Information
• We are located across the street from Bordwell Park and half-way between UCR and downtown.
• Emerson is considered to be a “mini-United Nations” school because of the rich diversity of cultures, languages and countries represented in our population.
• During the 2009-10 year we are building three new buildings which include 12 classrooms, a new library, a new bus entry and parking lot.

Outstanding Programs
• State History Day- For the past several years at least one student from Emerson has advanced to the State History Day Competition.
• Science Fair- Emerson students have earned numerous awards at the UCR/RUSD Science Fair as well as the regional Science Fair competitions.
• Reflections- Emerson students participate in the PTA Reflections competition and have recently earned regional awards.
• GATE Special Day Class- Emerson is one of only three schools in the district that has this special program designed just for Gifted and Talented Education students.
• Technology Rich- Emerson classrooms are equipped with technology resources that include teacher presentation systems. Our library has a computer lab with 18 computers for student use.
• Green Team environmental awareness program
• After school child-care is available through Stratton Community Center 951-826-5355.

Community Partnerships
• Emerson is home to the Eastside Community Garden, a two acre garden partnership with the City of Riverside. The school grows strawberries and lettuce that are sold to our cafeteria for the school’s Farm Fresh Salad Bar.
• The Riverside Optimist’s Club sponsors Emerson by financially supporting field trips, special programs as well as their annual Tri-Star Basketball tournament..
• The University Eastside Community Collaborative provides tutoring during the school day.
• Emerson’s PTA helps to organize and encourage parent participation.
• Emerson has partnered with Lockheed Martin to participate in the Space Day program for the past 6 years.

RUSD students learn the power of one
Haiti USL Group Picture web.jpgAfter hearing about the devastating loss caused by the January 12 earthquake in Haiti, RUSD students and staff immediately started working to help those affected by this tragedy. With each one contributing just one small amount, the District has raised close to $14,000 so far for the relief effort.

RUSD earns multi-million dollar math grant
math.jpgRCC and UCR professors and district math specialists will be supporting teachers and students through the Pythagoras Project, a mathematics grant valued at more than 2.2 million dollars. The grant is made possible through the California Mathematics and Science Partnership.
