College and Career Fair is October 4 |
All RUSD high school students are encouraged to attend the sixth annual Riverside College and Career Fair, to be held from 5 to 8 PM on Monday, October 4 at the Riverside Convention Center, 3443 Orange Street in downtown Riverside. The free College and Career Fair will feature more than 50 colleges and 20 businesses. College and career planning workshops will cover such topics as work readiness, financial aid, UC/CSU and private universities, community colleges and trade schools, preparation for the college experience and more. Riverside Against Drugs celebrates 25 years |
Riverside Against Drugs (Project RAD), a community partnership which aims to help young people make smart choices and avoid drugs alcohol, tobacco and violence, will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year. In that time, RAD has raised nearly $1 million for local prevention programs. Several fundraising events have been planned to mark this year’s landmark occasion. These include: · September 25 – Drive One for Your Schools – 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Riverside Plaza. For every test drive of a new Ford vehicle, Ford will donate $20 to Riverside Against Drugs. · October 4 – Premier Service Bank Charitable Golf Outing – Victoria Country Club. Teachers and students learn with Pythagoras Project |
Eighty RUSD teachers and 500 students spent part of their summer diving into math…and having a great time as they increased their knowledge of grade level mathematics standards. This year marked the beginning of the Pythagoras Project. Funded with a $2.8 million California Mathematics and Science Partnership grant, the Pythagoras Project is a three-year project partnering RUSD with Riverside Community College (RCC), the University of California, Riverside, UCR Extension, and Architecture/Engineering/Consulting/Operations and Maintenance (AECOM). Arlington High School Envirothon team takes first place at Canon Envirothon!!! |
The Arlington High School Envirothon Team has just won first place overall and first place in the Soils division of the Canon Envirothon competition, an international environmental science contest that includes teams from 45 states and 9 Canadian provinces. To celebrate this outstanding achievement, the team received accolades from both the Board of Education and Riverside City Council this week. RUSD receives $200,000 in federal technology funds |
The Riverside Unified School District has been awarded more than $200,000 in federal Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) dollars to support instructional technology. These funds are among $34 million in EETT grant funds awarded to 1,062 local educational agencies throughout California. This money is the first part of a $71 million in EETT funding awarded to California as part of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The first portion of these funds has been distributed by formula to districts that receive federal Title 1 monies. RUSD receives Target grant for virtual field trips and literacy programs |
Dateline: Anywhere in the World! Riverside Unified School District students soon will be able to travel the world without leaving their classrooms, thanks to a grant from Target. RUSD has been selected to receive a grant for The Target Virtual Field Trip program, the first of its kind in the country. This program will allow students at two RUSD elementary schools to travel to California State Parks, national landmarks, historic locations, and virtually anywhere in the world – without getting on a bus. The virtual, interactive field trips will be made possible through state-of the art technology purchased with funds from the Target grant.
